VIRUS CYCLE

"Return To Zombieland"

"Some may say run away in fear.  Some may say the end is near."

Welcome to the world of VIRUS CYCLE, a post-apocalyptic future inhabited by flesh-eating zombies. The story began back in February of 2011, when VIRUS CYCLE released their debut album "Alice In Zombieland".  The cover art for "Alice In Zombieland" immediately captured my attention with the stark contrast of poor Alice wondering through the streets of a post-apocalyptic city strewn with death and decay.  "Alice in Zombieland" has since been downloaded by people all over the world via the band's official site.

Since the release of "Alice In Zombieland", the music of VIRUS CYCLE has been played on stations all over the world and the group have also been interviewed by a variety publications, including Grave Concerns E-ZineCarpe Nocturne Magazine and many others.  VIRUS CYCLE have also been included on two Industrial Waste compliations (Volumes 1 and 2) which were released in May and October of 2011 respectively.

VIRUS CYCLE combines haunting lyrics, pulsating beats and grinding buzz saw guitars designed to take listeners on a journey into the afore mentioned post-apocalyptic wasteland of death and destruction ruled by the undead.

Hailing from Boston, the band's line-up varies depending on whether they're bound for the studio or for a live performance.  Johnny Virum is the irreplaceable mastermind behind VIRUS CYCLE, but several other members contribute to the concept of this experimental-style industrial-zombie-tech fusion of metal mayhem.  While Johnny remains the creative genius both on and off stage, Damaris delivers vocals, Veronika handles programming (as well as artwork and social media) and most notably, Otto Kinzel plays bass and provides his skills and services as a proven studio producer.  Otto's latest effort, "We Are All Doomed: The Zodiac Killer", was recently voted as one of the Best Albums Of 2011 by the Hippo Press of New Hampshire.  Read more about Otto Kinzel at this location.

Recently, VIRUS CYCLE completed a sequel to "Alice In Zombieland" appropriately titled "Return To Zombieland".  The new album features 12 remixes of previously recorded songs along with 2 new brand new tracks produced by Otto Kinzel.  The latest album stays true to the established zombie-theme with "Bring You Down (Forever)" which offers a twisted form of industrial-techno featuring the dark, haunting vocals of Johnny Virum.  The track also utilizes voice-overs that add an interesting and clever character to the club-beat chaos and industrial insanity.  The second new song, "City Of The Dead", is exceptionally disturbing and much more potent.  The song begins with a bone-chilling air-raid siren in the background, distorted guitar and more of the spoken-word-style unnerving vocals.

Johnny Virum with VeronikaThe songs on "Return To Zombieland" are as enjoyable to listen too as they are creepy and disturbing.  A few of the musical moments on "Return To Zombieland" make me feel as though I'm listening to a warped distant cousin to Rammstein or, even more accurately, an evil doppelgänger of Kraftwerk.

In either case, VIRUS CYCLE offer a dark, brooding, disturbing and often cinematic sound that seems to be the perfect soundtrack for a decaying world infested by putrid, decomposing, disease-ridden, brain-eating, zombies.  As creepy as most of the songs are, they also have a mesmerizing and hypnotic quality that makes "Return To Zombieland" a completely unique and interesting auditory experience.

Here's the best part:  "Return To Zombieland" is available for streaming via Soundcloud at this location, or better yet, visit VIRUS CYCLE's official site, select the 'music' tab and download any combination of individual songs or either of their complete albums - all for free.  Is it metal? Uh, no... but it's one hell of an adventure.

Show some zombie-love and respect for yet another creative, multi-talented, independent artist, and check out VIRUS CYCLE at any of their official sites:

DIVINE CODEX

New Video Trailer for "The Dark Descent"

Italian black metal outfit, DIVINE CODEX have announced a new video trailer in support for their latest release "The Dark Descent".  The album has been released through the Spanish label Mighty Hordes Productions.  The video trailer is available for view in the player below.

DIVINE CODEX is a Black Metal creature born in 2009 from the twisted minds of Guh.Lu (Impiety, Xeper, Hell Terrorist) and Atum (ex-Impiety, ex-Setherial, ex-Malfeitor).  Known for playing a mix of fast blasting songs with obscure atmospheres, their initial project started out as a studio jam that later became the debut album "Ante Matter" which was released in 2010 and featured special guests from the swedish horde Setherial and Attila Csihar of Mayhem.

This album being their second venom-filled effort, "The Dark Descent" consists of eight haunting tracks of crushing, old-school black metal that merges with modern, unearthly influences and results in a unique, mind blowing new level of metal madness.  The album features vocals by Mysteriis (Setherial) and guitar solos by Bernd "Bernth" Brodträger (Belphegor) and Fabio Zperandio (Ophiolatry).

The album represents a new chapter in the history of the band and offers new, more complex songwriting elements, without sacrificing any of the merciless, blasting pace for which the group is well-known.  From the highest spheres to the deepest abyss, "The Dark Descent" is a enigmatic journey that extends into the outermost boundaries of the mind.

The Dark Descent” is now available through Mighty Hordes Productions as a Special Edition Slipcase CD and Standard CD Edition.  Check out the trailer for "The Dark Descent" in the player below:

SLASHER

Announce New Video "Enemy Of Reality"

Brazilian Thrash metal band, SLASHER, have announced the release of their new video for the song "Enemy Of Reality" from their debut album, "Pray For The Dead".  The video was produced by Soluciona Agency from Itapira, São Paulo, and directed by guitarist, Lucas Bagatella.  The video is available for view in the player below.

The group's guitarist, Lúcio Nunes described the production, "The video shows the band playing in an old abandoned church as a girl is kidnapped and abused in the basement.  The presented elements in the video are consistent with those addressed in the album "Pray For The Dead" and refer to to an awakening to reality.  The central idea revolves around the ideological imposition and imprisonment created by the church.  The kidnapped girl is exposed to an extreme situation that inevitably triggers an aggressive response.  When she overcomes her fears, she is able to regain control of her circumstances and the outcome is revealed.

SLASHER recently announced that "Pray For The Dead" is available for free download.  All they ask for is the small contribution of a Tweet or a Facebook post.  All you need to do is go to this location and click on the 'Pay with Tweet or Facebook button.'  If you like what you hear, you can always show your support by purchasing the album on iTunes at this location.

The free album download contains 11 aggressive tracks of killer thrash and even includes a copy of their animated music video for the song "Hate".  The video for "Hate" was also produced by Reinaldo Antonelli from DC Studio, post-produced by Soluciona agency and Lucas Bagatella.

"Pray For The Dead" was released just 8 months ago on May 13th, 2011.  The album was recorded, mixed and produced at Piccoli Studio in Campinas by Ricardo Piccoli (ShadowsideKamala) and Slasher.  The zombie cover artwork was created by the brilliant French artist, Stan W-D.  Check out more of Stan W-D's incredible artwork on his official site at this location.

"Pray For The Dead" is an aggressive, modern, intense and elaborate effort. According to the group's bassist, Wellington Clemente, the album displays "strong influences from eighties metal."  The album also features Kalama's frontman and guitarist, who recorded screams for the track "Hate" and also provided backing vocals for "Tormento ou paz" along with Ricardo Piccoli.

In October 2010, SLASHER conquered 30 other bands, taking 1st place in the 26th Festival Estudantil da Canção de Americana (FECA).  According to a poll conducted by Whiplash.net., SLASHER ranked 5th place among the best bands in the state of São Paulo.

SLASHER have also stepped up their game with a slick new website layout that makes it easy for fans to connect with their social network accounts, sign-up for their newsletter, and also select between English and Portuguese languages.  I don't know what suddenly compelled the band to give their latest album away, but you won't hear me complaining.  "Pray For the Dead" is an awesome debut effort and features brutally intense tracks.  Download your own copy right here.

ASPHERIUM

"The Veil Of Serenity"

Norwegian extreme tech-thrash metal band, ASPHERIUM, released "The Veil Of Serenity" on Nov. 11, 2011.

ASPHERIUM was founded in 2007 (Moss - Norway) by Marius Skarsem Pedersen and Torgeir Lyby Pettersen. Bjørn Tore Erlandsen was enlisted shortly after and the trio recorded a three song demo titled "The Lingering Animosity". In 2008, Bjørn was paralyzed and required surgery for his injuries, but the band endured and continued to write and rehearse the songs that would eventually become "The Veil Of Serenity".

The production value is stunning, their use of dynamics is to be congratulated and, from a technical aspect, the level of musicianship is outstanding. Brutal and dynamic.

On "The Veil Of Serenity", Marius delivers tremendous vocals and growls with murderous intent. Both Marius and Morten demonstrate an exceptional level of skill on guitar, sharing wicked and intense riffs. Torgeir's bass is thunderously powerful and Bjørn's drumming is relentless and pulverizing. "The Veil Of Serenity" is available for purchase on iTunes, the official ASPHERIUM site, as well as many other digital retailers.  Contact the band directly by email: contact@aspherium.com

FEATURED ALBUM

SUSPERIA

"We Are The Ones"

Symphonic Black/Thrash group, SUSPERIA, realeased their lastest album "We Are The Ones" and November 11, 2011 on SMG Records.

"We Are The Ones" is their seventh album release, marking a decade of album releases and at the same time celebrating the return of Øyvind "Mustis" Mustaparta (ex-Dimmu Borgir) who participated on the group's first demo back in 1999.  The album pays homage to the fact that SUSPERIA have been performing together for 12 years.

SUSPERIA's sound is a blend of black, death, thrash and symphonic metal with a fair amount of melody thrown in for good measure.  This is an album where completely different influences can erupt at any time. As difficult as their sound may be to define, this may also be one of the main reasons that SUSPERIA has survived and managed to retain such a significant and loyal fan following.  Well-crafted, consistently unique, original, interesting and... brutal.  Considering that SUSPERIA have claimed that originality is the essence of surviving the music industry, it would appear that their philosophy has given them a clarity that has helped define their formula for success.

SUSPERIA is back... they're here to stay.
