VIRUS CYCLE
"Return To Zombieland"
"Some may say run away in fear. Some may say the end is near."
Welcome to the world of VIRUS CYCLE, a post-apocalyptic future inhabited by flesh-eating zombies. The story began back in February of 2011, when VIRUS CYCLE released their debut album "Alice In Zombieland". The cover art for "Alice In Zombieland" immediately captured my attention with the stark contrast of poor Alice wondering through the streets of a post-apocalyptic city strewn with death and decay. "Alice in Zombieland" has since been downloaded by people all over the world via the band's official site.
Since the release of "Alice In Zombieland", the music of VIRUS CYCLE has been played on stations all over the world and the group have also been interviewed by a variety publications, including Grave Concerns E-Zine, Carpe Nocturne Magazine and many others. VIRUS CYCLE have also been included on two Industrial Waste compliations (Volumes 1 and 2) which were released in May and October of 2011 respectively.
VIRUS CYCLE combines haunting lyrics, pulsating beats and grinding buzz saw guitars designed to take listeners on a journey into the afore mentioned post-apocalyptic wasteland of death and destruction ruled by the undead.
Hailing from Boston, the band's line-up varies depending on whether they're bound for the studio or for a live performance. Johnny Virum is the irreplaceable mastermind behind VIRUS CYCLE, but several other members contribute to the concept of this experimental-style industrial-zombie-tech fusion of metal mayhem. While Johnny remains the creative genius both on and off stage, Damaris delivers vocals, Veronika handles programming (as well as artwork and social media) and most notably, Otto Kinzel plays bass and provides his skills and services as a proven studio producer. Otto's latest effort, "We Are All Doomed: The Zodiac Killer", was recently voted as one of the Best Albums Of 2011 by the Hippo Press of New Hampshire. Read more about Otto Kinzel at this location.
Recently, VIRUS CYCLE completed a sequel to "Alice In Zombieland" appropriately titled "Return To Zombieland". The new album features 12 remixes of previously recorded songs along with 2 new brand new tracks produced by Otto Kinzel. The latest album stays true to the established zombie-theme with "Bring You Down (Forever)" which offers a twisted form of industrial-techno featuring the dark, haunting vocals of Johnny Virum. The track also utilizes voice-overs that add an interesting and clever character to the club-beat chaos and industrial insanity. The second new song, "City Of The Dead", is exceptionally disturbing and much more potent. The song begins with a bone-chilling air-raid siren in the background, distorted guitar and more of the spoken-word-style unnerving vocals.
The songs on "Return To Zombieland" are as enjoyable to listen too as they are creepy and disturbing. A few of the musical moments on "Return To Zombieland" make me feel as though I'm listening to a warped distant cousin to Rammstein or, even more accurately, an evil doppelgänger of Kraftwerk.
In either case, VIRUS CYCLE offer a dark, brooding, disturbing and often cinematic sound that seems to be the perfect soundtrack for a decaying world infested by putrid, decomposing, disease-ridden, brain-eating, zombies. As creepy as most of the songs are, they also have a mesmerizing and hypnotic quality that makes "Return To Zombieland" a completely unique and interesting auditory experience.
Here's the best part: "Return To Zombieland" is available for streaming via Soundcloud at this location, or better yet, visit
